Today was different for me. It started off much like any other Sunday with going to church, watching a football game, and going shopping. However, I had two friends approach and talk to me about things that were troubling them, something that hasn’t happened here in NOLA before. I was fortunate enough to know how to help them, but it got me thinking: how does one effectively give care? Before one can even give physical care, one must first listen. Even if no physical care can be given, there is still the necessity to close one’s mouth and open one’s ears to the needs of the other. Although I will not go into what the friends approached me about, I still feel lucky both to have friends who trust me with their issues and to know what to say or do when approached. Admittedly, I felt like I was grasping at straws for one of them, but I helped him/her come to a better understanding, one that was not possible by him-/herself. I just pray that, as time goes on, my ears might continue to be open to all those I come into contact with, and that all God’s children might be able to stop and listen to one another. Until that happens, no problems can be solved truly. Anyway, good night, and may God bless you in all you do.
